We call you first to set a time. Nobody shows up unannounced.

Appliances are heavy, awkward and full of things the landfill doesn't want: refrigerant, compressor oil, motors and a lot of steel. We take them from wherever they are, kitchen, laundry room, garage or carport, and make sure each part ends up in the right place.

Why refrigerators cost more

Anything that cools carries refrigerant, and federal rules say that refrigerant has to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped. That means a fridge, freezer or window unit can't simply be crushed with the rest of the load. The added cost covers that handling. Once the refrigerant is out, the steel, copper and aluminum are recycled.

The garage refrigerator

Nearly every house in the Cape seems to have one: the second fridge in the garage, running in 95-degree heat until it finally gives out. They are usually the oldest appliance on the property and the least efficient, and a lot of people only notice how much power one was using once it's gone. If you are replacing one, we can take it the same day the new one arrives.

After a power surge or a flood

Summer lightning and storm surges take out appliances in batches, and a flooded garage can ruin a washer, dryer and freezer at once. If you are clearing water-damaged appliances for an insurance claim, take photos of the model labels before we load them; your adjuster may want them. We can haul the appliances along with soaked furniture and drywall as a single load through our debris removal service.

Clearing out more than appliances? A garage cleanout or furniture pickup can share the same truck, and the price guide shows how combined loads are charged.

Appliance removal questions

Do I need to defrost the freezer first?

It helps. Turn it off and empty it the night before so it isn't leaking across the floor while it's carried out. Tape the doors shut if you can.

Will you disconnect my washer?

We unhook a washer's water hoses and drain line if the valves close properly. We don't disconnect gas lines or hardwired electrical; a plumber or electrician does that first.

Doesn't the store take the old one when they deliver?

Many retailers will, for a fee and only on the day of delivery. Call us if the delivery is from a seller who doesn't, if the old unit is in the garage rather than the kitchen, or if it's already been sitting there a while.

Can you take an AC condenser?

Yes, once a licensed HVAC contractor has recovered the refrigerant and disconnected it. That is normally done as part of the replacement.
